Maskara, a portmanteau of "mask" and "mascara," is a love letter filmed in a time of uncertainty.

When San Francisco's shelter-in-place order began in March 2020, our studio shut down. Once we could work again, we moved out to the street, shooting within two blocks of home base. Lipstick sales were down; mascara and eyeshadow were flying off the shelves. When a mask covers your mouth, your eyes do the talking. We gave the whole studio to makeup artist Lisa Teller so she could work masked with one model at a time, and let the serendipity of the street replace the control of a studio.
