BASED IN SAN FRANCISCO
I bring distinctive ideas and skillful execution to every project.

Behind The Scenes
I first met Michael over twenty years ago. In this time we have worked on many projects together and become firm friends. Michael was my go-to guy for many years, for good reason.
Apart from being immensely talented he is smart as a whip, funny as hell, a super knowledgeable tech geek and closet intellectual, but most important of all, he’s a wonderful human. He always accommodated my demands as a creative director, no matter how outrageous. His people skills are a joy to behold, and he has the patience of a saint, often smoothing over issues on set that my short fuse could never begin to deal with. He’s saved my arse from throttling a client many times. An effortless joy to work with, he’s a hardworking master of the location shoot and creative genius in the studio, be it static or motion.
Kevin Stokes, Creative Director & Agency Owner (Retired)
I think like an artist. I work like a craftsman. That means bringing distinctive ideas and skillful execution to every project, whether it’s a healthcare campaign, a branded film, or a documentary short.
I came to filmmaking through journalism. As a photojournalist for national newspapers, I developed a documentarian’s eye and a habit of looking for the essential thing that makes a person or a story worth telling. I still look for the same thing: bringing a story to an audience. It’s just the medium that’s moved, from newsprint to film and video.
My short film Selling Rosario, which I co-wrote, co-directed, and shot, won 2 jury prizes, 2 audience awards, and additional honors for directing and acting across 18 film festivals. A series of short films I directed for the State of California was recognized by the American Public Health Association and American Photography for using cinematic storytelling to reach farmworker communities on health and safety, proof that craft and public-interest work aren’t mutually exclusive.
I work out of The Foundry, a 3,000 sq. ft. studio in San Francisco’s Mission District, equipped with everything from a RED digital cinema camera to hand-made 4x5s and antique lenses, whatever the story calls for. And when a project calls for a perspective no drone can match, I fly it myself: I’m a licensed pilot, and I shoot aerial cinematography from my own Cessna.
Clients have included agencies and brands across technology, healthcare, life sciences, and government, with recognition from Graphis, American Photography, the Medical Marketing Association, and the RX Club along the way.
